Multiplied Voice — Exhibitions
Image

“Multiplied Voice” brings together a group of artists who explore the narrative substance of the voice or who understand the museum as a space of resonances, singularities and distortions. “Multiplied Voice” also evokes the time of listening and speaking in the museum.

Over the last ten years the CIAJG has consolidated a project that combines experimentalism, freedom and rigour, based on the work of José de Guimarães and his art collections. The artistic cycle “Beyond History”, conceived by Nuno Faria – launched the idea of a “museum labyrinth”, that aims to “re-enchant” our perception - of visible and invisible things. During this period, more than an exhibitions programme, the CIAJG affirmed the idea of the encounter as a ritual. More recently, during the uncertain times of the pandemic, we inaugurated a new phase for the CIAJG that is the sum of previous achievements, while adding new directions and other visions. “On the edges of fiction”, the title of the current artistic cycle, places fiction at the heart of our reflections. Fiction that has its own reality and makes us experience new ways of relating to things. Imagining the CIAJG’s future means wanting to build new meanings with the established lexicon: enchantment, history, fiction... And affirm the ritual of the encounter as a possibility to activate the museum. In 2022, we will insist and ask:

WHERE ARE WE NOW?

Ten years later?

Which museum, for which future?

How can we continue and renew who we are and what we exist for?

Which ruins should we abandon in order to bring together that which is distant or keeps us apart?

A museum thinking about the crisis of objects

A museum thinking about

WORDS, DEVIATIONS OF MEANING

To gather what is fragmented. To take notice.

When art fails, does speech fail?

Speech that states the objects, that names them.

Ten years later, the museum raises the same question once again:

HOW CAN WE MOVE TOWARDS AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE?

And think about multiplicity, the entanglement of times.
THE MULTIPLIED VOICE

Isn’t this another dimension of a museum that is seeking new meanings? What meanings?

What are the meanings of the non-meaning that we are placed in, in our fast world, in the short circuit of images?

How can we build a common awareness of the world?

A museum, ten years later…

Works, objects, trying to understand the asymmetries of what we (still) call Art;

Ten years later:

A museum with actions that:

Irreducibly affirm the plurality of our bodies and affections that are burning on the funeral pyre of language

In the inter, the in-between zone, which is every relationship

SO HERE WE ARE TEN YEARS LATER, TAKING A GLIMPSE AT THE NEXT TEN YEARS.

THAT’S WHY:

There is a museum that can never stop inventing itself.

It must reinvent itself, or surrender.

WHY:

WE WANT that which is alive and uncertain, in the near and far.

a relationship-museum, an open museum

Continuing WITHOUT THE SYMBOLIC DOMINATION of

what has taken on another meaning in itself.

Thinking about objects we keep incorporating the complexities

(and movement) of objects and people.

Their transits, and fictions

POLYPHONICALLY

POLY-PHONICA-ALLY

A MUSEUM THAT WAS, THAT IS, WILL BE

like a constellation WHY SHOULD WE LIVE FOR:

The transit and trance of

PERSISTING .
