The Feminine and Abjection – Essays on the Contemporary (Ob)scene
Published by Annablume in 2024, The Feminine and Abjection – Essays on the (Ob)scene Contemporary is the second book by Brazilian playwright, performer, and researcher Janaina Leite. Initially conceived as the outcome of several investigations into self-representation and the use of biographical material in theatre—especially through the work of Angélica Liddell—the book, as the author puts it, took on such a strong will of its own that it ultimately transcended that original intent. In conversation, we’ll try to understand how and why. If time allows, we’ll also revisit her first book, Performative Self-Writing: From Diary to Stage.
Janaina Leite é atriz, diretora e dramaturgista. É uma das fundadoras do premiado Grupo XIX de Teatro de São Paulo, com quem criou diversos espetáculos premiados que circularam por todo o país e no exterior. Em paralelo à trajetória com o Grupo, concebeu os espetáculos Festa de Separação: um documentário cênico , Conversas com meu Pai, Stabat Mater (ganhador do prêmio Shell de dramaturgia em 2020) e lançou o livro Autoescrituras performativas: do diário à cena pela Editora Perspectiva, consolidando sua pesquisa sobre autobiografia e documentário no teatro. Lançou também pela editora Javali a publicação com a dramaturgia dos espetáculos Conversas com meu Pai (texto de Alexandre Dal Farra) e Stabat Mater.
Entre outros projetos e iniciativas artísticas, Janaina também atua na orientação de núcleos de pesquisa, cursos, palestras e curadoria por todo o Brasil, além dos "Laboratórios Autorais" que desenvolve desde 2012, tendo já orientado dezenas de processos artísticos.
