21 MARCH TO 6 SEPTEMBER
Aidan Duffy

The brief career of Scottish artist Aidan Duffy (Glasgow, 1995) has developed mainly within the orbit of the London art world – the city where he studied, and where he continues to live and work. Aidan Duffy intuitively combines found objects and a diverse array of materials into sculptural assemblages that harmonize intense expression with refined composition. His creative process begins before – sometimes long before – the physical production of a work, being rooted in his relationship with the objects he gathers in his studio – whether found on the street, purchased at online auctions, or gifted by loved ones. His work has an extraordinary, counter-intuitive capacity to combine disparate and seemingly incompatible elements into a harmonious whole. As he puts it, “there needs to be a certain balance when it comes to form, texture and colour.” The artist’s sculptures are impressively anthropomorphic: to quote him once again, they embody the expression or representation of certain emotional and psychological states “through colour, tone, or even pace and movement”. Making his debut at an art centre, this exhibition presents a selection of his wall sculptures alongside an entirely new body of work. It offers a brief – and hopefully auspicious – survey of his ever-evolving output.
